Cayuga County and its municipalities are moving forward on consolidation discussions in an attempt to satisfy a state mandate that seems to have some local leaders miffed.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced this year that counties will be required to submit shared services plans for residents to vote up or down on the November 2017 general election ballot. The idea, Cuomo had suggested, was to streamline services and provide taxpayers’ savings.
The state also provides an incentive to local governments for developing these plans. Those that show savings through new cooperative efforts are eligible for a one-time match of the net savings from the state.
