Canandaigua Airport to get federal money for upgrades

The Ontario County Industrial Development Agency will be getting more than $1.6 million in federal funding for infrastructure projects at the Canandaigua Airport, according to a joint announcement Thursday by U.S. Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

Ontario County Economic Director Michael Manikowski said the funding will go toward the construction of a “badly needed” facility to house snow removal equipment, which is used to keep runways and taxiways clear.

Also, a large portion of the funding will help fix up the airport’s apron area, he said.

“We’re happy for the support,” Manikowski said.
