Fallen Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua P. Shaver’s daughters, Laney, 6, and Kelsey, 2, were called to the front of St. Mary’s Church.
In front of law enforcement members from inside and outside the county, including fellow corrections officers, and many friends and family, Laney and Kelsey accepted candles, in memory of their father.
Church Deacon Claude Lester said the candles represent faith, and told the girls the lit candles will keep the memory of their dad burning brightly in their lives.
Deputy Shaver’s funeral Mass was celebrated Friday. The 35-year-old deputy died last Sunday as the result of injuries he suffered in a crash in Hopewell earlier in the month.
