Sheriff: Patrol boat ‘complete loss’ after fire in Sodus Point

Investigators believe the fire started as maintenance was being performed on a boat.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office lost a boat in a fire at Krenzer Marine on Grieg St. in Sodus Point on Friday.

It was determined that Theodore Koren, 68, of Drums, Pennsylvania was performing fuel system maintenance at his boat when it caught fire.

The fire quickly spread to a Wayne County Sheriff’s Patrol Boat, which was docked nearby.

Deputies say Koren’s 27-foot Baja, as well as the Sheriff’s Office 27-foot Boston Whaler were completely destroyed in the fire. A dock owned by Krenzer Marine was also destroyed in the fire.

Fire and EMS were called to the scene from Sodus Point, Wallington, North Rose and Alton.
