Slight chance for severe weather on Monday

We’re over four days into the month of June but the cool, wet spring-like weather pattern remains with us into the work week here in the Finger Lakes. The low pressure system responsible for Sunday’s rain will remain over our area with a chance for rain through Wednesday.

Monday will start dry for most, but afternoon thunderstorms are possible. Some of those storms could be strong or severe, but according to FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil, the threat is minimal at this stage.

He said storm development will likely begin between 1 pm and 3 pm, with thunderstorms becoming widespread across the Southern and Eastern Finger Lakes during the mid- and late-afternoon hours.

The best chance for storms will be in the darker green shading in the image above. Here, showers and storms will be widespread and a few could become strong with gusty winds and small hail, according to Montreuil.

The wind damage threat is mostly limited to small branches and weak, already compromised trees. Significant or widespread damage is unlikely.

Before storms fire this afternoon, temperatures should flirt with 70 degrees.
