New owner, new building for Canandaigua Medical Group

Canandaigua Medical Group has long been a go-to spot in the area for primary care. The private practice that opened in 1951 was expected Thursday to come under a new owner, Thompson Health.

The $19.8 million deal involves a new building — at the same address, across from Thompson Hospital on Parrish Street, with additional parking space, upgraded technology and a streamlining of medical records to help patients receiving medical care at Thompson.

Thompson Health and Canandaigua Medical Group have been working together for years, said Thompson chief executive officer Michael Stapleton Jr., adding the two share many of the same patients.

“It just made sense to combine forces and with a formal partnership moving forward,” Stapleton said.
