Canandaigua woman falsely reports assault, robbery

Police in Canandaigua say that a 36-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday around 3:40 pm after allegedly falsely reporting an incident.

Officers say Caryle S. Murphy, 36, of Canandaigua was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident after she allegedly made a phone call around 11:17 am reporting that she had been assaulted and robbed while at the Lagoon Park.

After a four hour investigation, it was found the Murphy falsely reported the incident and that the assault and robbery never took place.

Police say that the area around where Murphy was said to be assaulted was closed off unnecessarily following the false report.

Murphy will appear on June 28th to answer the charge.
