If all goes as planned, the Village Board will announce its new police chief at its July 10 meeting.
The village has been without a police chief since the Oct. 31 retirement of Doyle Marquart after 38 years as chief.
Since then, sergeants Lee Marquart and Jason Godley have been alternating as officers in charge.
At Monday night’s board meeting, village resident Michael O’Brien asked about the police chief vacancy and when it would be filled.
Mayor Ted Young said “it’s been a long, drawn out process” but the village has identified four finalists.
He said interviews of the four by the full board will take place soon. “If things go as planned, we will announce a new chief July 10,” Young said, adding that the entire board will do the interviews.
One of the board members, Les Marquart, is brother to Sgt. Lee Marquart. Both are sons of the retired police chief.
O’Brien asked where the finalists were from.
Young said two were from within the department and two were from outside the department.
