DEC seeks comment for treatment plant

The state Department of Environmental Conservation has tentatively decided to issue a new, revised discharge permit for the Honeoye Lake Consolidated Sewer District Treatment Plant.

The plant at 8696 Main St. discharges up to 500,000 gallons of treated wastewater into Honeoye Creek, which has recently been reclassified from Class D to Class C.

Before the permit is issued, the DEC is allowing public comment.

The draft permit proposes revised effluent limits for fecal coliform, the addition of summer pathogens, winter effluents, summer ammonia, Ph and total residual chlorine limits.

It also includes a compliance schedule for disinfection and overflows and a mercury minimization program.

The applicant for the permit is Ontario County, which operates the treatment plant.
