Home catches fire in Bristol after lightning strike

Deputies in Ontario County say that on Saturday around 7:02 pm they were called to Williams Rd. in South Bristol after a neighbor reported a smoke odor after hearing a lightning strike nearby.

When deputies arrived, a fire was found inside a home on Williams Rd.

The homeowners, Timothy and Christine Callaghan, were not injured in the resulting fire, which was contained to the eastern roof of the home.

The Callaghan’s were not forced to leave the home after the fire, and the property is insured, according to deputies.

Richmond, Naples, Bristol and Hemlock Fire Departments all were called to the scene. RG&E also responded to the scene to deal with damaged power lines.
