Canal Fest getting closer: Boaters, businesses urged to participate in Aquacade

The Seneca Falls Business Association (SFBA) is inviting all boaters, kayakers, jet skiers, canoers, tubers, floats, and all other watercraft owners and operators to participate in The Aquacade Watercraft Parade on Saturday, July 8th at 4:00 pm during the upcoming Seneca Falls Canal Fest.

Businesses and organizations are encouraged to decorate their watercraft to their liking, according to organizers. Individuals are welcome to utilize their creativity to entertain the crowd and to share in the fun.

There will be $500.00 in prizes awarded to the Best Decorated Watercraft.

More than 30 watercraft, ranging from kayaks to a 45-foot cigarette-style speed boat, participated in last year’s Aquacade Watercraft Parade. Most were decorated while non-decorated ones just floated in the parade to show off their watercraft.

Dennis Scannell, Aquacade organizer, “It is a great way for a business and an organization to get some free advertising. Someone working at a business or at an organization has a boat that can be used so we encourage them to take advantage of this unique event.” He continued, “This year the Locks on the Seneca-Cayuga Canal are free and we have a boat launch that is also free and conveniently located at our Community Center. Plenty of parking has been allocated for boat trailers and vehicles. We are inviting all boaters from both Cayuga and Seneca Lakes to come on down to help make this the ‘Greatest Show That Floats’! Free docking will be available for all watercraft in the Canal Harbor. Watercraft can utilize the docks as early as Thursday, July 6th and remain throughout the event. The Canal Harbor offers free electrical and water hook-ups as well as phone & Internet services.”

Convenient shower and laundry facilities are also available. All participants must register in advance and there will be plenty of locations to dock or moor in the Canal Harbor. There will be Fireworks afterword and watercraft are invited to view the extravaganza from Van Cleef Lake.

“This year, the Finger Lakes Boating Museum will be bringing up some antique boats to float in the parade and we are reaching out to other boating organizations and individuals. Any type of watercraft are welcome to join in. We’ve posted some decorating ideas on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/sfcanalfest, to help to stir up those creative juices,” Scannell said. “This event is unique to Seneca Falls, dating back all the way to the Aqua Festivals of the 1960’s. Individuals have commented that it would be great if Seneca Falls could bring this back and we are attempting to do just that.”

Registration forms and additional information can be found posted on the Canal Fest’s Web Site at www.senecafalls.com/canalfest.

The SFBA serves as the organizer of the Canal Fest. This year’s Fest will be held on July 7th, 8th, and 9th along both sides of the Cayuga-Seneca Canal in Seneca Falls. Food, Arts & Crats, Amusement Rides, Games, Craft Beverages, Live Music, Performances, & Demonstrations, Corning Museum of Glass’ GlassBarge, Duck Race, and more are part of the 3 day celebration.
