Auburn woman faces welfare fraud, grand larceny charges

An Auburn woman was arrested Monday for welfare fraud stemming from allegations that she provided inappropriate childcare.

Linda M. Scott, 51, of 178 Seymour St. Apt. 1, Auburn, was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies, after she allegedly received over $2,500 in childcare benefits in 2015 without registering her childcare location with the Department of Social Services, said Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann.

Budelmann said she received the money over a two-month span, from Feb. 1, 2015 to April. 15, 2015. It is against the law to provide childcare at unregistered locations.
