Buttonwood Grove receives $50,000 farm grant

Buttonwood Grove Winery at 5986 Route 89 on Cayuga Lake has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the New York State New Farmers Grant Fund.

The winery, which also offers guest log cabins for visitors, is owned by David and Melissa Pittard.

“We plan to use the grant money to plant an additional eight acres of vineyards for cabernet, pinot noir and riesling grapes, install drainage tile and buy some equipment to help manage the vineyards,” David Pittard said.

Buttonwood was one of 27 new or early-stage farms across the state to receive a grant from the program in 2017.

Since the program began in 2014, it has provided nearly

$2.5 million to 66 farms across the state to expand and improve profitability.
