Penn Yan burglary investigation spans three counties; two face felony charges

On June 25th around 1:50 pm Penn Yan Police were called to a local business on Lake St. for the report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

Upon arrival police learned that two males had already fled the business with nearly $2,000 worth of merchandise. Witnesses identified the suspect vehicle and did video record the suspects during their getaway.

Police secured the scene and notified surrounding agencies of the suspects and suspect vehicle, which resulted in both being subsequently spotted a short time later by law enforcement in Geneva.

A short vehicle pursuit resulted, but officers took both suspects into custody.

Arturo C. Diaz Jr., 27, and Ruben F. Rivera Jr., 30, both Bronx residents were arrested on separate charges and committed to the Seneca County Jail in lieu of bail.

The resulting investigation determined that the total amount of merchandise stolen was valued at more than $1,700. Penn Yan Police charged both with fourth-degree grand larceny – a felony, as well as conspiracy and criminal mischief.

The charges will be answered in Penn Yan Court at a later date.
