Deputies in Ontario County are looking for an elderly man on Canandaigua Lake, after he went missing on Monday.

Deputies say Richard Myers, 83, of South Bristol drove from his cottage on the west side of Canandaigua Lake to Smith Boys Marina on Route 21 at approximately 10:15 am.

He was seeking assistance getting his boat started from his residence, according to deputies, and an employee helped him at the dock of Mr. Myer’s residence — successfully starting the boat at approximately 10:30 am.

Less than 30 minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office received a call about a boat washing up on the shore line of 6983 Route 21 just a few residences north of Myer’s cottage. The boat was empty and the power was off.

Myers is known to swim off the boat in this area. He is also in frail health, according to investigators.

The Sheriff’s Office conducted an extensive search in the area between the cottage and where the boat was found, and the water was also searched using the Sheriff’s Underwater Search and Recovery Team, as well as Marine Patrol from Ontario and Yates counties.

At this point, deputies say Myers whereabouts is still unknown. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red shirt. The jeans were located in his cottage but the red shirt was not.

He is believed to be wearing swim trunks, but no shoes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (800) 394-4560.
