Blue green algae strikes again.
Sandy Bottom Beach on Honeoye Lake was closed for swimming as of Tuesday and will remain closed until the state Department of Health gives the OK for swimming again.
No specific cause has been identified as the culprit of the “unacceptable bloom,” according to town Councilman Steve Barnhoorn. In fact, on Monday, no blooms were detected or found during a check of the lake, Barnhoorn said.
This proves how unpredictable these events are, Barnhoorn said.
More than half of the 11 Finger Lakes experienced a harmful algal bloom in 2016, Barnhoorn said.
