Latest on fire that leveled Nolan’s on the Lake in Canandaigua

The fire investigation could take days.

The loss of one of Canandaigua’s most well-known restaurants will be felt throughout the community.

The outcome of Thursday’s early-morning fire is nothing short of astounding for those who live in Canandaigua to grasp.

Nolan’s on the Lake, a popular restaurant owned by Nic Violis, who also owns the restaurant at the Canandaigua Country Club — is nearly-leveled.

The fire was reported around 5:30 am and deputies believe the fire broke out around 5:25 am.

The flames could be seen billowing out from the top of the structure, as departments from throughout Ontario County converged on the scene to fight the fire.

It was a firefight that took hours, and completely shut down the area.

“It’s pretty extensive damage,” says Ben Cramer, Canandaigua Fire Chief. “The entire building will probably have to be demolished.”

The fire was so intense that the City of Canandaigua’s municipal water system had to begin drawing from other sources. “It taxed the system significantly, and we began pulling from other sources,” added Chief Cramer.

Management of the restaurant will be holding a meeting later today to determine how they will move forward. Both the restaurant and property owners have expressed possibility that they will re-build on the same site.

Most of the building has collapsed and fire officials say the restaurant is a complete loss.
