Comfort comes on four legs at nursing facility

“Life is better with a dog.”

It’s the official slogan of a nonprofit organization called East Coast Adoptions, and it’s also fast becoming the motto in one wing of the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, where a Lab mix rescued through the organization has staff, residents and families alike wrapped around her little paw.

Chloe belongs to the unit’s new nurse manager, Lorie Mellini of Middlesex. Mellini joined the staff in April, and Chloe began accompanying her to work in May, after Mellini approached administration to make sure it would be OK, and to explain how well it had worked out in her previous workplace.

Now 2½ years old, Chloe has been in a skilled-nursing environment since she was 5 weeks old and is not afraid of wheelchairs, walkers, bells or alarms.
