Geneva City Supervisor Charlie Evangelista, a Democrat, told the media on Friday that it was a sensible fit.
The longtime supervisor stepped down from his role on the Ontario County Board of Supervisors, paving the way for his recommendation to the Democratic Elections Commissioner.
The move comes as Mary Salotti, who held the role for 33 years, is set to retire on July 28th.
“I’m certainly passionate about the party, but the job requires me to be one of two managers,” Evangelista said, referring to Republican Commissioner Mike Northrup. “There are times to be partisan and times to make sure every vote counts.”
Evangelista stepping down requires that his vacancy be filled on the Board of Supervisors, which will be addressed this fall.
