Significant flooding risk again as warm, muggy air makes return to FLX

Get ready for a warm and muggy week here in the Finger Lakes.

Along with that air mass will come the threat of flooding rains.

FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil says that there is an elevated risk of flash flooding, especially in areas that were hard hit last week. That means parts of Tompkins and Cayuga counties are under the gun once again.

Montreuil says a weak storm system will push into the Finger Lakes early this afternoon and the muggy conditions will foster thunderstorm development. As they develop — the usual threats will persist. Some strong winds are possible and lightning will be a hazard.

However, the biggest threat will be heavy, torrential rains, which will likely fall with these storms. Storms that can dump and inch or more of rain in a short period of time, are the kind that are particularly risky given the current conditions.

As noted earlier, there are several roadways throughout the region, which remain closed due to damage sustained during the flood. While most of these areas are in the southern and eastern portions of the Finger Lakes — no one is going to be out of the woods this week.
