In the days, weeks and months after he was severely injured in an off-road vehicle accident, Tyler Fisher has been told many times how fortunate he is to be alive.
He has never disputed that.
“I realize how lucky I am,” the Midlakes High School graduate said during a recent phone interview. “I guess I never realized how serious it was until I was told that while I was in the helicopter, the medic had to revive me and bring me back to life.”
Just a little over three months after he was internally decapitated in a UTV (utility task vehicle) crash in Phelps, Fisher continues his remarkable recovery. To help with his medical bills, friends and family have organized a benefit fundraiser Saturday that will include a 5K race and chicken barbecue.
Fisher is a 2012 graduate of Midlakes, where he played football for four years. He attended St. John Fisher College for two years, playing tight end for the football team, before transferring to the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
