Early this morning, the 88 foot schooner Lois McClure from the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum locked through Lock 27 in Lyons, NY. The McClure is piloted by Captain Eric Tichonouk. Power for the McClure is provided by the tugboat C.L. Churchill, piloted by Captain Art Cohn. The McClure is headed west to Tonawanda and visiting communities along the canal as part of the McClure’s 2017 Legacy Tour commemorating the Erie Canal Bicentennial. Communities along the canal not visited on the westward tour will be visited by the McClure as returns east and back home to Vermont.
