Summer heat continues this week, significant cool off coming this weekend

As pointed out in the last few updates by forecasters, this week could be the last shot of summer-like air that the region experiences through the middle of the month.

According to FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil, temperatures will soar through the remainder of the week — but big changes are coming this weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop each day of the remaining heat, but those will be largely scattered and a good share of the region could go without any rainfall at all through Friday.

However, Montreuil says that the change coming this weekend and next week will be one that lives through the middle of the month. Temperatures will cool off to the low- or mid-70s with cool northwest winds that could gust between 30 and 40 mph on Saturday.

With the cooler temperatures the increased risk of rain, as an unsettled pattern becomes the norm again in the Finger Lakes.

A lot can change in the forecast between now and then, so be sure to check out the FingerLakes1.com Weather Center for the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.
