Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ chief photographer has won a prestigious national award for one of his works.
In his photo, “William Smith Rowing at Sunset,” HWS Chief Photographer Kevin Colton of Tyre captured eight William Smith rowers, mid-stroke, and the boat’s coxswain, during practice gliding across Seneca Lake at dusk. The image has captured the Gold Award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, or CASE.
The CASE Circle of Excellence Awards Program recognizes institutions and professionals in higher education for exceptional work across specialties ranging from fundraising and alumni relations to photography and websites. In their report, HWS officials said the 2017 judges stated that Colton’s photograph is “absolutely gorgeous,” noting the “exquisite” color palate that “showed off not only the beauty of the campus through one of its sports, but also the lovely surroundings. It was the perfect time of day to get this shot.”
