The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire region until 9 pm. This watch means that thunderstorms developing this afternoon are capable of producing damaging winds, hail, and significant rainfall.

The warm, humid, and largely calm weather pattern that the region has experienced over the last several days is about to come to a screeching halt.
A cold front will clear the region out of its warm, humid air — ushering in a weekend of unseasonably cool, but nicer weather.
Temperatures will soar Friday afternoon into the upper-80s, to near 90 degrees.
According to FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil, the timeline for severe weather will be near-evening. A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to push through the region between 7 and 11 pm. By midnight the storms should be off to the east of the Finger Lakes.
Montreuil says the risk with these storms, and even some of those that may develop during the daytime heating — will be strong winds, hail, and even a rogue tornado. Montreuil and the National Weather Service notes that the likelihood of any tornado activity is extremely minimal, but cannot be completely ruled out when the atmosphere becomes ripe for storm development.
Strong winds will setup behind the cold front, with temperatures struggling to get out of the 60s in some spots on Saturday. Sunday should top out in the mid-70s, but will start cool in the 50s with patchy fog.
