Macedon man reels in record-breaking 36-lb. fish

A man from Macedon pulled in a huge fish on Oneida Lake back in June.

On Tuesday, the New York State DEC announced that the 36-lb. freshwater drum was a record-setting catch.

Jason Bair, who lives in Macedon, reeled in the drum on June 16. The fish surpassed the previous state record set in 2016 by more than six pounds.

This is the second state record-breaking fish caught in 2017. Another fisherman caught a 35 lb. 3 oz. channel catfish up in Jefferson County on Lake Ontario on April 29.

According to the DEC, drum fish are growing to be much larger than ever before in New York. The growth is attributed to their ability to effectively forage on the abundant invasive quagga and/or zebra mussels found in these waters.
