So shocked that “I cried my eyes out,” were the words that Amanda McCormick said when asked of her first reaction when learning she had been chosen to partner with Yates County Habitat for Humanity for home ownership. Amanda said that she was not the luckiest, “the person who never wins anything.” Well Amanda, if winning the lottery is not an option, this might ease the pain.
Amanda’s boss at Rainbow Junction, Marcia Rogoff, saw the ad seeking applicants to partner with Habitat for home ownership in the local paper and encouraged her to apply. Amanda thought that no way would she be picked to partner with the local affiliate. Fortunately, with Marcia’s persuasion, she applied and was chosen. Amanda, like her father, graduated from Penn Yan Academy and after leaving the area returned in 1996. She now works at Rainbow Junction.
Amanda with her daughters Morgan, 11 and Brynne, 8 has taken up residency at 130 Seneca St. Penn Yan.
