Martha Pollack was officially welcomed as the 14th president in Cornell University history on Friday during an installation ceremony on the Arts Quad.
Hundreds of Cornell students, alumni, faculty, staff and members of the public attended the near two-hour ceremony, which was followed by a community celebration on the Quad.
Dartmouth President Philip J. Hanlon gave the installation address and dozens of universities were represented in the crowd. Pollack spent time in her speech talking about free speech being protected and the things which do not fall under free speech.
The installation ceremony capped a two-day inauguration celebration. The Cornell Dairy put out a new flavor to celebrate the new president called "Martha's Bits & Bytes," which is French vanilla custard with a banana swirl, soft brownie morsels and white chocolate flecks.
