Farmington woman charged after abandoning dog

A Farmington woman has been charged with animal abandonment after an investigation by the Ontario County Humane Society.

Officials say that the entire ordeal began on August 21st when they were called to a residence on Running Brook Rd. in Farmington after the report of a caged dog being dropped on a porch. Upon arrival, officials found a note on the cage, which asked the residents to find a good home for the abandoned animal.

This week, Lauren Amaya, 21, of Farmington was charged with animal abandonment after it was learned that she was the previous owner. She attached the note to the cage, and dropped the cage at that residence after the dog failed to “get along” with another animal.

The charge will be answered in Farmington Town Court at a later date.
