All schools in Ontario County are now officially back in session with the opening Wednesday of the remaining four districts.
Teachers, administrators and volunteers waited outside schools in Canandaigua to greet new and returning students at Canandaigua Academy and the middle and primary-elementary schools.
Buses waited at the primary-elementary school for a coordinated drop-off, followed by the familiar hiss of hydraulically released air as doors opened and the little ones began stepping out.
“Good morning,” greeted Emily Phillips, an elementary school music teacher. “Carly, I love the shirt,” she said to a little girl and then turned to hug Reese, a returning student obviously glad to see her too.
“I love the first day of school,” Phillips said. “I love the smiles on everybody’s face. I love the enthusiasm. I like seeing kids I haven’t seen all summer.”
Principal Brian Amesbury said any teachers and staff who did not have a class immediately starting, along with teacher’s aides and volunteers, came out to meet students.
