Newark grad part of CDC’s ‘disease detectives’

Sharon Sweet knew early on that Robyn Cree was something special.

“The first thing I figured out is what a quality person she is,” said the retired Newark Central School District teacher, who lives in Penn Yan.

Then there were Cree’s smarts.

“She was one of those who was a little harder to challenge,” Sweet recalled.

Cree, a 2005 graduate of Newark High School, has plenty of challenges now. She is a new Epidemic Intelligence Service officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is based in Atlanta.

“This has been a dream of mine since I was an undergraduate,” Cree said.
