Port Byron home damaged in Saturday afternoon blaze

First responders in Cayuga County were called to Port Byron for a reported structure fire Saturday afternoon.

The call came in shortly after noontime, and reportedly started on the back deck of the structure. The fire then spread into the home, from that back deck area.

When the first crews from Port Byron arrived at the scene, which was listed as 2006 Nauvoo Rd., both smoke and flames were showing from the exterior.

Altogether, Weedsport, Jordan, Sennett, Aurelius, Montezuma, and Port Byron Fire Departments had crews at the scene, as well.

First responders say some crews were able to get inside the home to fight the fire, but that there was an issue with a live wire within the first few moments of arriving on the scene. A wire, which may have been damaged during the blaze, was laid out in the front yard as crews worked delicately around the home.

Around 15 minutes after the first crews arrived on scene, most of the fire had been knocked down, but some was still present within.
