Leon Fontier of Penn Yan led a committee of volunteers that organized the Walk for Water Sept. 16 on the Keuka Outlet Trail. The event raised over $5,000 that will be shared by HTS Congo, Friends of the Outlet, and Penn Yan Rotary. Fontie, the founder of HTS Congo (Habitat Technology Solutions), uses simple technology to build safe ground water and sanitation facilities in DR Congo.
He says 80 percent of rural residents in DR Congo lack adequate sanitary facilities so rivers are contaminated, spreading diseases. Fontier About 100 walkers participated in the walk on the Keuka Outlet Trail. For more about HTS Congo, visit htscongo.org. For more about the Friends of the Outlet visit www.KeukaOutletTrail.org.
