Heavy rain will taper as day progresses; winds kick up during afternoon

The Finger Lakes is receiving the first soaking rain its received in more than a month and it’s all due to the remains of Hurricane Nate.

Steady rain began overnight, and according to FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil is expected to continue through part of the day on Monday. By the mid- to late-afternoon hours, though, most of the precipitation should be over for the region.

The rainfall will stop from west-to-east, as the “dry line” pushes eastward throughout the day. The rainfall itself is moving northeast.

As the rain wraps up this afternoon, though, Montreuil says winds will pickup as the center of circulation sits over the top of the region. “South and east of the low, winds will be stronger, with gusts of 30 to perhaps 40 mph over some of the higher elevations. Wind gusts west of the low should be under 25 mph,” added the FLX Weather Meteorologist.

He says that temperatures will remain in the low-70s, which is significantly above average. The system on Monday will setup for a bit of an unsettled pattern this week.
