Grant could fund $1M Labelon cleanup in Canandaigua

Cleanup of the former Labelon building at 10 Chapin St. could receive state funding, if a recently submitted Restore NY grant application is approved.

On Oct. 5, City Council members moved ahead with a request for grant funding from the Restore NY Communities Initiative, administered by the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC).

If approved, the $1 million grant would fund the majority of the hazardous materials and environmental remediation at the former Labelon building, which is now listed as vacant, abandoned and condemned.

Private developer Canandaigua Crossroads LLC, under the umbrella of DHD Ventures, would kick in another 10 percent of the total cleanup cost.
