Horse killed in Benton crash involving vehicle, buggy

A horse was killed after an accident on Pre-Emption Rd. in Benton, according to officials.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office reports that Bridgette Spicer, 20, of Lafayette was traveling south around 8:30 am when she approached a horse-and-buggy.

Deputies say that buggy was traveling the same direction, and Spicer failed to slow down enough when approaching. She struck the wagon, according to deputies — killing the horse.

Marvin Martin, of Penn Yan, who was operating the buggy was thrown from the wagon and landed in a nearby field. Deputies tell us that he suffered minor injuries to the upper-body.

Spicer was ticketed for failing to reduce speed for a special hazard, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
