Annual Gloves 4 Love campaign heads into final stages

For nearly a decade, one local family has spearheaded an effort to provide winter outerwear to Ontario and Seneca county residents in need.

Bernie and Anne Smith launched Gloves 4 Love as a way to collect gloves, hats and scarves that could be distributed to people throughout the region. With the help of their three children, Hannah, Louis and Jake, the Smiths have processed 4,431 pairs of gloves, 3,573 hats and 2,846 scarves since the program began.

This year’s campaign wraps up Wednesday. Donations of new gloves and mittens of all sizes and colors should be placed into drop boxes by then so that items can be passed out in time for Christmas.

Drop boxes are located at St. Mary’s Church in Waterloo, St. Patrick’s Church in Seneca Falls, St. Francis-St. Stephen’s School in Geneva, and at the Smiths’ 2509 Lower Lake Road home.
