Taxes going up for most Cayuga County-area towns

Homeowners in most towns in the Cayuga County area can expect to see bigger property tax bills in 2018.

Of 25 town boards within Cayuga or just across the eastern county border, seven adopted budgets for next year that either decrease or maintain tax levies, the total amount of spending that is supported by property tax collections.

While most towns will increase their appropriations, 11 towns are decreasing their overall town appropriations. Budgets range from $601,576 to $3,825,486 with the overall average at $1,390,741. Tax levies range from $81,000 to $2,725,078, with the overall average at $406,968.
