A school administrator, a teacher, two students and two community members are being sought to serve on a committee tasked with naming the gymnasium at Waterloo High School after retired teacher, coach and athletic director Joe Sposato or someone else.
The district received a petition last month with at least 25 signatures. It asked that the athletic facility be named the Joe Sposato Sports Center. The petition was submitted by school guidance counselor Mark Pitifer.
The school board has a policy that states when such a petition is received, the superintendent and school board will select a committee whose purpose is to solicit and submit up to two nominations to name a new or existing facility and an explanation for each nomination.
Any administrator, teacher, student and community member interested in joining the committee is asked to send a letter of interest to school board president Mike Shores to the 109 Washington St. district office by Jan. 19. The committee could be chosen at the Jan. 22 school board meeting.
