Six months ago, Steve Churchill proposed that Seneca County create a website on Fingerlakes1.com dedicated to the reporting of offensive odors. It was considered an alternative to a hotline for odor complaints maintained by Seneca Meadows Landfill.
The county Board of Supervisors, of which Churchill was a member at the time, tabled it in July. It has tabled it every month since then.
On Tuesday, the board — with Churchill no longer a member — voted to un-table the measure for discussion and a possible vote. However, by an 11-2 vote, it was referred back to the board’s Environmental Affairs Committee, a panel that has not yet been established for 2018.
Greg Lazzaro, R-Seneca Falls, and Don Trout, R-Waterloo, voted against the measure. Board chairman Bob Shipley, R-Waterloo, was absent.
“We need a separate system,” Cindy Lorenzetti, D-Fayette, said during Tuesday’s discussion. “It’s not right the landfill, which creates most of these odors, does it.”
