NY won’t spend $460,000 on NASCAR race in Watkins Glen, multi-year deal struck with ‘Go Bowling’

New York State won’t spend another $460,000 on race sponsorship at Watkins Glen International in 2018, according to NASCAR officials.

In 2017, I LOVE NY sponsored the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International. This year that agreement has been agreed to with Go Bowling. The investment last year, came in exchange for multiple promotional opportunities. There were even I LOVE NY billboards installed at the venue. Those were visible during the television broadcast.

A NASCAR race has been held at Watkins Glen International each year since 1986, and a variety of different companies — most of them large, corporate partners — have been represented.

The Go Bowling agreement is a multi-year deal, according to officials, who say that the primary benefit will be naming rights. A number of other promotional and marketing opportunities will come from the deal.

It’s unclear how much the deal fetched.

The 90-lap race at Watkins Glen International is slated for Sunday. Aug. 5. It will be televised on NBC.
