Painted Post man faces felony charge after violating protective order

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 33-year-old Painted Post resident following an incident where he violated the terms and conditions of a stay away order of protection.

Deputies say that Steven C. Northrup, 33, was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, which is a Class E felony. He was arraigned in Corning Town Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.

However, Northrup wasn’t the only arrest after the incident. According to deputies, Andrew S. Vanzile, 33, of Corning was charged with third-degree criminal mischief after throwing a hammer through a window of a vehicle operated by Northrup.

That incident took place on Balcom Avenue in Corning, according to deputies.

He was released with an appearance ticket to answer the charge at a later date.
