A master plan being developed for the Ontario County Landfill following its 2028 closure is taking longer than anticipated to complete.
For that reason, the county Board of Supervisors’ Planning and Environmental Quality Committee may approve a no-cost time extension for Barton & Loguidice to finish the job.
The county hired the Liverpool engineering firm Sept. 5, 2016. That contract ended Dec. 31, and both sides want to extend it for another year.
If the committee approves the extended contract, it will go to the full board for final approval.
A 43.5-acre expansion within the existing footprint of the Routes 5&20 landfill in Seneca allowed it to continue operating beyond 2016. Based on current volumes of accepted trash, it would stay open another decade.
