Petitions have been filed at the Yates County Board of Elections for those running for office in the Village of Penn Yan. Three Village Trustee seats and the Village Mayor’s seat will be on the ballot March 20.
The trustee seats are currently held by William Allison, Carolyn Benedict, and David Reeve. Allison and Reeve did not file petitions. Benedict has filed as an incumbent.
Only two new candidates filed for the available seats; Raymond B. Spencer, owner of Water Street Wines and Sprits, and Teresa M. Hoban, a chiropractor with her practice on Lake Street.
For Mayor, incumbent Leigh MacKerchar is the only petitioner. All terms are for four years.
Independent nominating petitions were circulated from Tuesday, Jan. 2, until Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Village elections will also be held next March in Dresden and Rushville. In Dresden, one trustee seat with a two-year term is up for election. That is currently held by Brian Flynn, who was appointed in September after Trustee Colleen Riviello gave up her office to become Village Clerk. Flynn is the only petitioner to file.
