Ontario County judge candidate sees red over GOP’s endorsement

In a move that rankled Ontario County judge candidate Russ Kenyon, the Ontario County Republican Committee Tuesday endorsed fellow Republican Kristina “Kitty” Karle for the position. Committee members heard from each of the candidates before voting on an endorsement.

The committee also voted to endorse Republican Silvio Palermo for county sheriff over fellow Republican candidate Bob Green.

In a statement released Thursday, Kenyon stated: “On Tuesday night, a small group of people behind closed doors tried to make the decision for all Ontario County residents about who will serve as your next County Judge. They backed my opponent and now are pushing me to get out of the race.

“I’m not backing down. My campaign will continue to push ahead full-throttle toward Election Day. Some may call me crazy, but I think that the actual voters of Ontario County should choose their next County Judge.

“Two years ago, we all watched a process where insiders tried to rig the Presidential race for anyone but Donald Trump because they thought they knew better than the rest of us. How did that work out?

“I announced my candidacy in January after many people reached out and encouraged me to run. They told me that my 25 years as a practicing attorney in Ontario County, decades of community service, and experience as a Town Court Judge make me the right choice to serve as County Court Judge.

“I have met some wonderful new friends and supporters over the last two months. Even late Tuesday night I was encouraged by the support I received from many. I’m excited and eager to share my qualifications and experience with the people of Ontario County and trust they’ll make the right decision on Election Day.”
