Village of Union Springs proposes fiscal year budget; water and sewer increases

The village of Union Springs proposed a budget with fewer total appropriations than last year in one of three budget-related public hearings during a regular board meeting on Tuesday.

Public hearings were held regarding the 2018-19 fiscal year budget, and separately, increasing water and sewer rates for customers served by the village’s municipal water or sewer system. All budgets will be voted on at next Tuesday in the final budget meeting at the village offices.

The general fund budget proposed for the 2018-19 fiscal year is $700,679, with expected revenue of $649,977 — $253,552 of that expected to be raised by taxes — with the remaining $50,702 coming from the fund balance. The proposed tax rate is $4.40, up about 4.5 percent since last year’s tax rate of $4.27.
