Over 300 video games stolen in Ontario County; returned illegally for profit at other store

Multiple Ontario County residents were arrested after an investigation into fraudulent returns of stolen video games at numerous stores in the Victor area.

According to investigators more than 300 stolen video games were illegally returned for profit at stores in Canandaigua, Victor, and Monroe County between March and May of this year.

Shane D. Maxwell, 29, Dalton J. Krug, 27, and Jeanine A. Kocher, 29 — all of Victor — as well as John R. Fayard II, 30, and Jason E. Sigel, 38, both of Canandaigua were arrested and charged with first-degree falsifying business records.

Investigators say the group made multiple returns of stolen video games to the stores — claiming the games were their personal property.

They say the group would steal the games from the Victor Walmart and Target stores before taking them to the GameStop stores located at Eastview Mall. Members of this group also made fraudulent returns to the GameStop store in Canandaigua and in Monroe County.

As result — they were able to collect over $2,000 from the fraudulent returns. The group is also facing individual charges for the larcenies at these locations.
