The Geneva Neighborhood Resource Center (GNRC) partnered with the Geneva Recreation Department held the 1st Annual Neighborhood-Wide Kickball Tournament at Ridgewood Park this past Saturday. This event was the kick-off of summer and of the 2018 Park Passport program. There were over 100 people in attendance representing ten Geneva neighborhoods. Children and adults enjoyed complimentary t-shirts color-coded to their neighborhoods, snacks, and yard games while different teams played on two fields. The winners of the tournament were a combination team of Hildreth Hill, Arbors, and Castle Heights who won the first Neighborhood-Wide Kickball Tournament trophy and each player of the winner team received small metals as a keepsake of their achievement.
Councilor-At-Large, Mark Gramling was in attendance, and after the event said, “My children and I had the opportunity to participate in Geneva’s First Annual City-Wide Kickball Tournament Saturday. We had a blast! It was great to see such a wide cross section of Geneva’s community come together and have a blast in one of our beautiful parks! It was great to meet and team up with folks from other neighborhoods around the city. I’d like to thank GNRC and all of the organizers who put together such a successful event! Thanks for putting the unity in community!”
We would like to thank our headlining sponsor, Massa Construction, for sponsoring this event and providing us with all of our t-shirts. Also, a special thanks to our other partners: Geneva Red Wings, Geneva Human Rights Commission, Casella, and McDonalds. We look forward to hosting this event again next summer, and encourage all residents to attend our summer celebration at the 2nd Annual Neighborhood Olympics on August 26th from 1PM to 3PM at the Lakefront Park.
