Canandaigua woman charged with animal cruelty, abandonment in Geneva

On May 25th the Ontario County Humane Society became involved with an animal investigation located at 300 Castle Street in Geneva.

This occurred after a neighbor heard a dog barking at the address, where the occupants had been evicted due to the living conditions at the property. Officials say the conditions of the residence were both unsanitary and uninhabitable.

Officials say the neighbor checked the residence and found a dog – named Nala – tied to the porch without food or water. That concerned neighbor Brough the dog to the Ontario County Humane Society where she was found to have a severe skin condition due to neglect and the conditions she was living in.

Nala is now being cared for at the Humane Society, and the animal’s owner – identified as Leah D. Coleman, 27, of Canandaigua was charged with animal cruelty and animal abandonment. She was also charged with failure to provide food and water to an impounded animal.

The charges will be answered in Geneva City Court.
