Brutus teenager killed in Monday crash

Sheriff David Gould reports that on late Monday afternoon, at approximately 4:46 pm, the Cayuga County E-911 Center dispatched Cayuga County Sheriff’s Patrols to a motor vehicle accident on Shepherd Road in the Town of Brutus.

The investigation into that accident revealed that Kayla Cox, age 19, of East Brutus Street Road in the Town of Brutus was operating a 2008 Dodge Dakota pickup southbound on Shepherd Road when she left the east side of the roadway and struck several trees.

Kayla Cox was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the accident.

Cox was the sole occupant of the vehicle and there is no indication that any other vehicle was involved in the accident.

Assisting the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office with this incident were the Cayuga County E-911 Center, Weedsport Fire Department, Port Byron Fire Department, Jordan Ambulance, New York State Police, and New York State Environmental Conservation Police.

The investigation into crash is ongoing.
